Crucify Them? We Created This Monster.

Since when are recipients of prank calls "victims."

A prank call is a joke. It might be in bad taste, but most people would see the harmlessness in them.

The British nurse who committed suicide, after receiving a prank call from Australian radio hosts, Mel Grieg and Michael Christian, posing as the Queen and Prince of Wales, is being described, at least by Sydney papers, as a "victim."

The Sunday Herald Sun's James Campbell described the Grieg and Christian as appearing "smug and stupid." And yes, they do come across as bimbo-ish, blockheaded and extremely shallow. But keep in mind that the photo of them doing the rounds of the media is a publicity still for their program, taken BEFORE the tragic suicide of Jacintha Saldanha.
Grieg and Christian are now said to be "devestated."

So criticism of them hardly seems fair.

Add to that the fact that no one has been able to definitively prove that the call and the suicide were connected.

The hospital where Suldanha worked says she was being supported "throughout this difficult time."

What! Have I missed something? Not only are receivers of prank calls "victims," but now they require "support" through "difficult times."

It seems there was more to it then just a phone call.

When somebody decides to end their life there is usually more than one underlying issue involved.

Yes. The DJs who made the call are idiots. Michael Christian especially has a history of behaving as if adulthood was a foreign concept. And we, like Britain, have a history of tacky, cheap stunts and cringe worthy humour. But to blame these two people, for the tragic death of a clearly troubled human being, is dangerous and wrong.

Also worthy of question, is how the pair has been allowed to go under the radar for what was a breach of the Duchess's privacy.

Before Saldanha's tragic death, the call was being talked about glowingly. Oh those funny larrikan Aussies. No mention of the fact they obtained, through deception, details of a patients confidential medical details. That's a crime.

I didn't hear a media reaction over that. No condemnation. Then again, the tawdry tabloid, FM radio, tacky talk show cretins never change their stripes.

Details of Mary's physical state will sell papers. No thought for the privacy that even the Royal Family deserves.

Instead we have media camped outside the hospital. We have the world salivating over news of a pregnant woman who, yes, is married to the second in line; however, every woman deserves full privacy where her health is concerned. Time for the toads to step away. You are all as bad as each other. Now get some ethics and stop blaming two young people who only did what has long passed for "acceptable" in these cheap and inconsiderate times.
